Tim Bushe is well known and very much admired in our our neighbourhood as he created this fantastic herd of elephants from a troublesome corner hedge a few years ago. No longer can unwholesome acts be carried out behind dense cover of privet and the area now boasts a wonderful piece of much-loved public art.
Now such artistry (and good deeds) have not gone unnoticed and Tim has been espied on The Great British Garden Revival on the BBC as well as The One Show and has featured in various articles in the local and national press.
Currently, his work is on display in a window at Selfridges in Oxford Street as part of their ‘Bright Old Things’ exhibition featuring 16 ‘individuals who’ve embraced a new vocation later in life’. Tim is still working full time as an architect, but having studied sculpture earlier in his career, creates marvellous pieces of topiary at weekends to raise money for the Hft charity who look after his sister. Donations can be made on his Just Giving page.
Venture inside Selfridges to see more of Tim’s topiary and other artworks by Tim and his fellow creatives in the dedicated ‘Bright Old Things’ pop-up space. The exhibition continues until the end February.
Tim is also happy to undertake new topiary commissions and can be contacted at tim@walkerbushe.co.uk or on Twitter @HedgecutterMan
Gorgeous and well-deserved.
Indeed!
I’ve always loved those elephants and it’s great to see Tim getting the further publicity that his gorgeous work so richly deserves. He even has friendly emulators – I’ve seen a dog hedge inspired by him, near London Fields….
It’s lovely to have such an inspirational topiarist amongst us! Deserves all the praise he gets!
Wow! The topiary is fantastic, how wonderful his work is being celebrated too.
Hi Julie, Yes, delighted that Tim is getting great recognition!
Love these. I tried a small one once and was an absolute failure but I did have a good time at least trying and laughing at myself. 🙂
Hi Judy, I’m always amazed at how fast as well as skilful that Tim is. Never as easy as it looks!
OMG, love those elephants! And well done, Tim, for getting some national recognition. Perhaps we across the pond will get to see his work on the Great British Garden Revival sometime. We are just finishing up a series of the Great British Bakeoff which I have just loved. Would love to see the gardening equivalent — and that herd of elephants. Amazing!
Hi Caele, very serendipitous that Tim joined our community project. Has transformed the neighbourhood. Hope you get to see him on TV!
I really enjoyed your blog today, if only there was more corner hedge topiary here in Shropshire. A few years ago I use to drive past a fanastic hedge caterpillar. The house sold, and very sadly the caterpillar disappeared .
Hi Sally, fingers crossed that Tim will keep trimming for a few years more, but he’d love to train up an apprentice too! Any offers very welcome!
As a bit of a very large treat – i’m off on a Niwaki pruning course in September. Those Shropshire hedges better be ready for me.
Reblogged this on Old School Garden.
Many thanks Nigel!
They are absolutely fantastic, people will always remember seeing those works of art!! The elephants are my favourite, they just make you smile!
This. Is. Awesome. Very disappointed in my husband for refusing to cede the driveway so that I can fill it with privet elephants!
