I was out gardening with friend Lizzie on a gloomy Wednesday afternoon and was hugely cheered and delighted by the sight of this Erigeron (karvinskianus) in pots.
Well into November and these blooms, having been in flower all summer long, are still looking fresh and enchanting. Not only a perennial, but Erigeron is drought tolerant too, so this is certainly an idea that I’ll be stealing next year for a window box or two.
P.S. Pots are from Hode Pottery in Canterbury, Kent
I’ve always loved a daisy……….
Indeed you have. As wellywoman below suggests, would be great to have them cascading from your raised beds?N x
It’s a great little plant which is still flowering in my garden too. I love it tumbling over my raised beds.
Hi WW, I always think of Erigeron growing out of walls and cracks in paving. Tumbling from raised beds and in pots is a revelation to me!
Have known this gem since childhood. When you pull a small one out the roots are incredibly long which is probably how it manages to grow in dry places.
Saw fantastic clumps yesterday in Christchurch Greyfriars Garden just north of St Paul’s and well worth a look. A plaque says they won 3rd prize in this years London Garden Squares competition but I can’t find out anything about that. Any ideas?
Hi Jo, Long roots must be how it does it. Good to know. Sorry, know nothing about Garden Squares competition, though sounds like a jolly good idea.
This plant is in my top ten list of favourites: the test being that if ever I move I will plant it again. I love it mixed here with the strappy leaves of Agapanthus and I fancy the large pots too.
Quite Agree Sue. Perfect plant/pot combination. Erigeron now edging up towards my top ten plants. Agapanthus already there!
Sue, Lizzie informs me pots are from Hode Pottery in Canterbury.
Have this dotted all over in courtyard in front of house – husband calls it a weed and has tried to eradicate but most glad to say that he has not succeeded. Very long flowering. I had never thought of growing it in a pot but it looks most effective.
Hi Anna, As Jo (above) says, must be the long roots that keep it going (despite attempts from husband). Your courtyard sounds gorgeous. Love the sight of Erigeron popping out of cracks in walls and paving.
I’d like to get hold of some of this. Any idea where I can?
Hi Nicolette, You could try Sarah Raven , Great Dixter or Crocus
Thank you. Will report back any success!
Hi Nicolette, Think you should be able to get hold of them OK. It’s a good time to get them planted now, before the colder weather sets in.

Hi, i have noticed that when crushed, the leaves have an aromatic oily fragrance. Any idea if it can be used as tea or eaten as herb?
